Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7 - Rose

Inspired by the common theme of love through out the song and the up and coming date of Valentines day I was inspired to include a basic symbol of love and incorporate it as something strange and obscure - much like the song expresses. The struggles with love and relationships can really effect someone's head and essentially become so powerful it is all we can think about at times.

I bought a rose and photographed simple photos using a white background so I could easily select it using photoshop with no struggle.

This is a shot of the upper body and head I took of a model. Representing the theme of love on the mind. I edited the background black to contrast with the rose square.

Here I drew an outline of my face to see if it looked effective. I much prefer the paler background and the silhouette I created from my upper body.

I decided using the flash of the camera it would create a much brighter image, which it did. This means the edits could be more crisp. I played around with another image of the rose, this time infusing the image onto the full body.

Here is a cropped version I much prefer. The image was too small to stretch until the arms so I had to crop it at the shoulders. This feels much more dynamic and unusual.

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7 - Pink, Purple and Good Times

For this shoot I wanted it to be a literal reaction to the song. Playing the song really loudly in my flat me and a few friends danced around and embraced the moment. I brought my Philips light torch to add aesthetic and to fill the room with bursting colour.

Album cover outcomes

For the album covers I just cropped out square shapes to fit with the 7 x 7 sleeve.

I quickly realised using the light torch I would have to convert the images back to CKMY. This restricted some of the imagery and it did not look as effective as I hoped. Some of the shots still worked out though, the ones with the flash where more easily suitable for the submission.

Using parts of the dress I created a background infused with the patterns. I also edited their hair so it was fully covering their faces, adding a mysterious vibe and different effect. I also smudges parts of their hair to make it looks more out of control, spiralling in the air.

Studio Brief 02 - Secret 7 - On Another Planet

Inspired by the idea that the song can take you into another world, I wanted to create my own planet landscape.

Using oils, water colours and inks I experimented with the many different colours that represent the colourfulness of the track. Focusing on contrasting colours I poured, infused and dropped in the colours over bed of water. I knew that oil does not infiltrate with water very well so they would sit on top of the water, which contrasts well with the leaking inks.

Final Outcomes

I altered the colours so they come electrifying and futuristic is, using the Curve effect in Photoshop.
In the first image I altered splash so you could not see the texture of the floor. However, I much prefer the original as it adds to the alien planet theme.

I felt I over edited this particular image, using too many filters - therefore I incorporated it into the other design, making it much more diverse and interesting.

To avoid including the plug without having to crop half the image out to create a 7 x 7 sleeve design, I edited the red splash image over the plug. Making it appear like another splash was poured over the plug. I then further smudged the middle edges until it appears like red liquid is pouring into the other pool of water.
