Studio Brief 01 - Idea generation

1.

Age of the Zeal is an event/art installation created by a student at LCA. I have attended two of it's nights before, one in first year and the other a few months ago - and I eagerly anticipate the upcoming event which will take place in the near future (according to their social media posts).

From my perspective the whole night is a collection of art, dance and drag performances, video projections, with a walk through 3-D experience of objects compliment the aesthetics of the work that revolve around a theme. It celebrates drag culture, explores femininity, feminism, gender identity all in a positive/forward thinking way.

THE WHOLE NIGHT IS A CELEBRATION OF SELF EXPRESSION.

I personally feel events like this are really needed in places like Leeds. It shows development and progression from social norms and what society tells us how we should be and act. In a way it is a great way for people to come together, celebrate art and become a part of a movement of self love and identity.

Creating a promotional poster for the next up and coming event could be a strong route, with the aims of expanding it's audience and popularity by creating more exposure.

With the creator of the event being a student at LCA this allows me to gather primary research by reaching out for an interview, which would give me a stronger understanding of the meaning behind the event. From this a collaboration could occur if the creator is interested and wants input into my design of the poster, giving me a client-based experience.

Peer Feedback
  • explore feminist posters
  • good idea to communicate with the creator to see if theres an opportunity to collaborate
  • try to represent what the creator would like?
  • explore using 'feminine' typography, more hand rendered e.g. written in lipstick
  • collage - messy aesthetic, DIY - represents origins of exhibition
MIGHT NOT BE A BIG ENOUGH EVENT TO COVER - COULD PROGRESS WITH THE EXPLORATION OF LEEDS GAY PRIDE.
