Design Principles - What is a Book? - Evaluation

Evaluation

I feel the process of the publication I have created has been successful. Photography books have been a passion of mine for a while and creating my own has been a unforgettable experience.

My simplistic approach to this design, in my opinion, has been a successful decision. A simple design allows the reader/audience to take in the photographs and appreicate their colours and content. I managed this by creating a grid that I could work with where multiple sizes of images could be cropped into. This gave me in some cases, lots of white space to work with.

Some difficulties I came across, one being the cutting down of the pages after print. It became rather difficult to get each page the exact same size when I was cutting using craft knife. Instead, I could have stitched my book and then later cut the pages down all at once.

Another issue with my final publication, is the fact when printing some of the pages came with a black line in the middle. You can see in some of creases the black lines and they look messy. Also, on some pages the centre overlaps meaning some images seep through onto the other page. This could be avoided by double checking the measurments and not cutting down prior to stitching.
