GF smith stock

From the previous order I found a lot of the paper I ordered was 300 gsm or above. This proved to be too heavy and incompatible with the main pages of the book which are printed on 115 gsm with a glossy finish.

However, the last few pages are exceptionally heavy, mostly using 500 - 700 gsm weights. This creates an possible imbalance within the layout of the book as a whole, as the end is much more dense. To test if this is how others perceive the same feel of imbalance I formed a mini critique fellow course graphic designers. I clipped the book together and slotted in a few pieces of pages similar to the weight of the main pages so they could access the publication as if it was bound.

Feedback:

"I feel it definitely needs more definition and something more bold at the beginning of the publication. Just to help balance it out and help engage the reader/viewer more."

"Including a unique design and something different towards the beginning would instantly draw the reader in. There is a lot going on at the back so it needs something there."

I selected these various papers to explore the differences between the intense white and natural colouring. These are all matte finishes with a similar weight of 118 - 120 gsm. This is fairly thin, which means they are perfect for flexible middle pages that would hold the main photographic content or possibly fit between them, with them left blank to create a break between the features of the book.

Alternatively, I ordered several colours of the GMUND ALEZAN range to reflect the aesthetics of the book, especially with the photographic imagery which is grungy, dark and moody.

The green and brown earthy tones were matched with the mock up book cover I did as I really felt the colour represented the grungy style of photography.
