Roald Dahl

- illustrate iconic characters/scenes from favourite stories
- should appear as if they were part of a published series
- "all styles welcome" - open to different types of illustration
- has to be relate to the logo design
- aimed at 5-11 year olds
This competition brief has little restrictions and is quite open to how the outcome has to look. However, the target audience needs to be carefully considered throughout and there are minor restrictions on how the overall look needs to be, yet at the same time it places no restrictions on the style of the illustrations.
Something I will have to avoid is the iconic Quentin Blake style as it is so well known and widely used for the Roald Dahl book series. My outcomes would never come out looking the exact same as this style, but it is something to consider when designing. Creating something that contrasts with this style means it is potentially going to get more attention.
Thirsty Planet
- create a campaign - quite unspecific about what they want i.e. poster, video etc... means it is open to interpretation
- branded at 18 - 24 year olds
- part of the profits go to charity, so this needs to be clear/demonstrated
Penguin - Adrian Mole
I have read this series throughout my childhood, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. They were in fact recommended by my mum who read them when she was a teenager too. Adrian's character is instantly relatable and a hilarious read.
The brief states...
"We are looking for a striking cover design that is well executed, has an imaginative concept and clearly places the book for its market. The cover should encourage children to pick up the book and buy it for themselves and should also engage adults to want to buy it for them."
