Logo

With the majority of the book having a rustic vintage earthy feel to it, I want to create a logo that can represent the NQ and capture it as a whole. However, with it having so many different elements, genres, subcultures etc... its near enough impossible to represent all of them with one style or design. Unless I create a mural, collage or piece that can connect them as one. That would then become another project of its own and would possibly sprout a complex design that is a lot to look at. I believe a logo should be simple, eye-catching and rememberable.

With that in mind, I have chosen to create something that totally contrasts against the themes of the book to represent the modern world and the ever changing NQ. The film and digital photos blend so well together its quite hard to distinguish the idea of present/future vs the past. The photos still capture the old elements which make up the place no matter if shot in digital or film and I feel the book needs a bold/fresh/modern logo that can really represent the present of the NQ.

Here are two of the shots I took on Stevenson Square. These are music event stickers and posters. They offer a black and white minimal design that speaks quite boldly. Sans serif type is always a popular reference for a modern design, each use this with heavy letter weights as the focal point. The bottom poster uses lots of negative space to help enhance the bold type.

To further my knowledge on modern type I have researched into them using some of my favourite blogs that reference modern/futuristic styles that are in trend at the moment.

Inspiration

A trend that always seems to come and go with logos and typography is the distorted or broken up effect. A lot of this style can be found in the NQ on flyers and posters.

This block style creating type with shapes is really effective as it stands out so bold and obvious. Although it is arguably illegible, the idea behind creating something that is brave and loud is what is going to get people's attention.

3-D style display type like this is really energetic and delivers the
