I guess a lot of designers prefer to leave the photos to be observed with little distraction, lots of white space and minimal design.
The map towards of the end of the book abruptly stops the flow of the book, as it feels almost alien compared to the rest of the content. There are no other illustrations and with it being colour it does not feel consistent. An ariel photograph of the map in the same black and white aesthetic would be much more suited and more fitted to the theme.
