Collaborative practice - Deciding on a group

  • Initially I wanted to work on the Anti-fur fashion campaign for D&AD, however, after going talking to the group of people at the speed dating session I didn't feel that comfortable with collaborating with some of the people there as it was split between graphic designers and animation.
  • After talking to some of the animators it become clear for the majority that for them the project would take an animated direction and basically as a graphic design I would be expected ti illustrate/design the work for it.
  • I felt really uncomfortable about this as I know illustration isn't my strongest skill and I didn't necessarily want to work with an animator if this was the case and the other graphic designers were hesitant to work with each other as I think we were all hoping to collaborate with an illustrator.
  • Decided to have a wonder and see what other people were doing, but by then it seemed everyone was in groups already - ended up leaving it a few days to really think about what other project I could do and who I wanted to collaborate with.
  • At the Nest Magazine launch I bumped into Meg, who's an animator and she was happy to work with me on the Fur brief, interestingly she was looking to create something editorial and less animation based. Editorial is a great interest of mine so we decided to work with each other and hopefully find another group member to balance out the work.
